Art Direction and Design services.

Design and Art Direction = Bread and Butter!

This example shows some packaging and POS Case Card/Header Card designs for various clients and promotions.

The majority of what I do is Design and Art Direction, but since going independent with my own company in 2006, the projects I've been awarded certainly have been a variety pack. From layouts/digital comps to high resolution digital imaging, I've had more opportunities to involve myself with a wide variety of projects, and variety is always good for an Art Director.

This is an example of an entire POP/POS program for 7UP Grammys "Party On TV" promotion. This job is a good example of the range of work I can provide. In this case I provided concepts in written and pencil form, designed all layouts and comps for approval, shot some of the photographic elements in the art, and created all of the high-res digital artwork ready for keyline and production.

Digital Imaging and Illustration services.

No job goes to print without retouching and high-res imaging.

Long before I even considered becoming an Art Director, high-res illustration and photo-retouching were just part of my daily work processes. I've been working this part of the industry since Photoshop and Illustrator were brand new tools to the trade, and it's a part of the job that I still really enjoy.

Illustration and Digital Imaging services include:

• High resolution keyline-ready art/imaging with bleed
• Product/Object outlining, masking and clean-up
• Photo-retouching & manipulation
• Vector & Bitmap (Photoshop) rendering/illustration
• Traditional illustration: pencil, pen, marker & acrylic paint

Photo-retouching & Digital Imaging

The Coke images are an example of some of types of Retouching and Digital Imaging I provide for agencies and other photographers. This example was created for Dan Coha Photography, chicago. Sometimes a great shot just needs a little Photoshop magic to make it really pop.

Digital Illustration & Digital Comps

My favorite part of any job is Illustration. Whether it's old school pencil, marker, & airbrush or digital, it's always been the base for any of my jobs, projects or even careers.

The "MOTODRIVEN" image is an illustration designed in Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop for presentation purposes. The visual represents a Motorola DJ Booth at an event. Some elements, such as the DJ and speakers, were grabbed from websites and manipulated to fit the visual, while all other elements were created from scratch with some of my own photo textures for the finishes.

Production Services.

In addition to HD creative services we also provide production services as a convenient means for streamlining client jobs, eliminating unnecessary steps in the process for our clients.

The last part of any print job is keylining and production. While most Art Directors/Creative Directors avoid this part of the job, I actually prefer setting up the art that I create for print for better control over the end results.

HD can handle any keyline project from simple single-sided print-ads & posters to complex packaging and displays. HD specializes in hi-res digital imaging. All production jobs welcome.

• Digtal Imaging and high-resolution rendering and assembly
• Image editing & color adjustment
• Packaging dies
• Flightcheck on all final art

Production Example

Shown here is an example of part of a production project. Art and Design for this job was created by my partner and turned over to me to create the high-res art, duotones for background photography, and all print-ready keylines.

Production work certainly isn't the flashy, glamorous side of the industry, but it's just as necessary. In fact, no matter how great the designs are, they won't be worth the ink they're printed with if this process isn't executed properly, so I've always considered it to be just as important as the concept itself and treat each job as such.
